Hello All,

Johnny here to let you know that our local team JC Aljezurense are back in training and the first match of the season is on Saturday October 3rd. The Division 2 has been expanded to 16 teams this year and the extra travelling costs around the Algarve will put pressure on the club.

To this end the club is trying to expand its supporter base locally. Forms are available from me or Liz and the cost for membership per person for the year is only €12. We will keep you updated in the coming weeks on any more news.

So come on and support the local side, you know you want to!!

The game against Vila Nova yesterday was very enjoyable, an open, attacking game with Aljezur under a lot of pressure from their more senior Alentejo opponents. Aljezur were 2 goals up before being pegged back to 2 all with a dubious late penalty to the visitors.

Next week we are at home in the Algarve Cup at 3pm, not sure of the opponents yet but will keep you posted. The league begins the following week 10th October away to Faro Benfica.

Keep on Kickin

JW Was right in his posting it was a good game to watch, plenty of action. Shame the Ref had a problem with the throw ins - maybe that's this years rule to watch!

(The bifanas at half time are excellent!)

Hi all,

Another entertaining if strange game today at Campo Municipal, Aljezur. This was a game in the Algarve Cup against a team we should have beaten comfortably but we did make life hard for ourselves with some uncharacteristic shoddy defending.
Aljezur went ahead early on but then conceded two goals which gave the opposition hope and they took full advantage by playing some decent football and growing in confidence. The turning point came 10 minutes before half time when the opposition keeper was sent off for a 'last man' tackle on one of our strikers which denied us a certain goal.
The resultant penalty was taken twice due to encroachment by the opposition and Aljezur went in 5 goals to 2 ahead at half time. The second half was end to end with lots of substitutions and goalmouth incidents but despite several more yellow cards, no more sendings off.
The final score was Aljezurense 7... team in Green and White 3. We are through to the next round.

Next week is the first full week of League Div 2, we are away to Faro e Benfica, in Faro. if you can be there then please do. PM me if you need any details, we will do our best to help.

The league season started yesterday with Aljezurense playing Faro e Benfica away and earning a hard fought nil nil draw. On a very hot day in Faro there were few chances although Aljezur did have the ball in the net in the second half but it was judged offside.

The home side pressed hard for a winner and struck the post after a fine left wing move but all in all a draw was a fair result. Next week we are at home to Quarteirense in the Campo Municipal on Saturday at 3pm... see you there.

Johnny - a bit of an aside for this thread

Ireland v Portugal in a Mundial 2010 play off game.

Now that would be interesting - Split loyalties
(I think I know the answer) ?

Regards

Leo

Just back from the footy, a 4 - 1 win at home for Aljezurense against Quarteirense today. Goals from Jorge (penalty), 2 from Rui Campos and another from sub João Pedro saw us safely home.

Some late drama with a sending off from each side kept things interesting. Next week we are away in Faro again, this time against FC 11 Esperanças.

Another day out to Faro but not the result we wanted or indeed expected having beaten FC11 Esperanças in the cup quite easily only 3 weeks ago, today we were on the end of a 3 zero beating.

It was a lack lustre perormance from the boys in blue and we went behind halfway through the first half following poor defending. Another defensive slip up between goalkeeper and defence allowed the home side a tap in for a 2 nil halftime lead.

We improved a bit second half but a couple of good saves from the home keeper and a goal line clearance kept us out and we conceded a late breakaway goal to face the long trip home pointless.

Next week we are at home to Machadas the current league leaders, a big improvement will be necessary. Saturday next 3pm at the Campo Municipal.
