Has anybody employed the private company B & B (Bruno Bartolomeu) based in Carvoeiro to undertake this task. If so, what was the cost? Alternatively has anybody contacted them for a quote?

We had Custódio S. Bartolomeu out today to empty our fossa. When we rang yesterday they were not sure due to uncertaintly about size of the cost of emptying it. They charge €75 for 'one car load' and although its the same car a 'two car load' is obviously €150.
They arrived on time having been met at the Rotunda and following an initial empty he went off to let the second tank drain in and returned for the second empty.
This of course meant a bill of €150 plus IVA which came to about €180 (ouch)!
Obviously the Camara option is cheaper but the best option by far is to have a grey water system in. That way you get to reuse your waste water for irrigation and will only need your other waste cleared maybe once a year. After all what is the point in paying to have your water in and then paying to have it taken out again... that's a bit Oirish!
Anyhow... a learning experience. Their phone number is 282 353 816, they are based in Lagoa, there was no extra charge for the journey. They have a website www.limpafossas.com where you can learn about how proper fossas should work and not the kind that are routinely installed in VDT which are really only holding tanks. Hope this is help to you all.

Have a happy fossa

Many Thanks Rover.
Your post is very informative for all of us on VDT. A perfect use of this website for the conveying of information.
Our last fossa bill from the Camara was 90 Euros (incl IVA) so the private service looks like it is twice as expensive, but could  be very useful in an emergency. However, our friends told us if you go to the Camara and plead that "Limpa Fossa esta urgente" they will come the next day and remove 1 load prior to a full emptying in the next week or so.

Hi Senhor Rover,

Thanks for being the guinea pig and sacrifising yourself for the good of others, 180 euros sounds extremely painful though.

The grey water system sounds like a great idea and I will give it some further investigation. The main problem for us would be that all our pipes (grey water and sewerage) go into 3 outlet points which combine to feed into the tank and it may be very tricky to separate the contents but it will be an interesting challenge for our builder.

Cheers

Jon

My fossa is being emptied as I type. It looks like the Aljezur Camara now have a bright new shiny lorry with a large tank. They are about to take away my second load. If we are to get charged for travelling time at least it should be a shorter journey in terms of time. I await with interest the bill!!! No doubt in a year or two we will hark back and be saddened by the disappearance of the lambourghinis (probably mis-spelt). Maybe the new lorry is on a trial period or is the brave new world created by private sector competition.

Janis you have to go to the Camara in Aljezur and arrange to have your fossa emptied.  Write down your address so they can take that and take your fiscal card.

Sorry can't help with info on the fossa, but you won't starve while your here. Font do vale, medieval snack bar, and o ze and o sargo at monte clerigo are all open. It has been sunbathing weather today and the long range forecast is for more of the same.

Hi again Lancashire Lass, yes as Harryjay points out the weather is on the up, can't beat this at the end of January. All of the above restaurants are open and as I have pointed out on the cafe thread the restauarant at the point on Arrifana is also open (heard this only today).
On the subject of the fossa emptying. You will need to go to the Camara, book the limpeza (emptying), they should be out inside a week, although they never give a time. You will need to provide your caixa postal and they will bill you. The good news is that they have a spanking new truck which has superceded the tractor and honeysucker device which seemed to take ages. Anyhow get yourself over here and relax.

Hi guys. This is the first post I have made on this forum although I have followed it with intrest since its inception.
On the fosser subject I had a strange experience and wondered whether any one else had a simelar one.
I have lived in Vdt for over 2 years permanantly and had to have my fosser emptied for the first time in November 2007. Mine is one which has a double trap etc and not like some that I know of which are just a storage tank with a slab on top. The fosser was emptied and cleaned by the new 'super truck' and I thought no more about it. I assumed (wrongly) that the Camara bill would arrive with my next water bill.
I check my post box twice a week and nothing arrived.
On 18th January this year I checked my mail and low and behold the fosser bill had arrived asking for 36.30euro's including IVA which I thought was very reasonable. One thing that struck me was strange is the bill was dated 11/12/07.
Anyway off I trotted to the Camara this morning to pay the bill and I was informed that I was late paying it and there would be a fine.
I explained that the bill had only arrived the week ending 18th January. This had no impact because the Camara said it was the Post offices fault.
As the envelope had no date mark I was on a loser straight away so paid the 15euro fine, making my total bill including 'late payment' fine 51.30euro.
This all seems straight forward up till now.
On my way back from the Camara this morning (21/1/08) I checked my Post . There waiting for me was another letter from the Camara quoting all sorts of laws and decree's and telling me that I was late paying my fosser bill, and that if I did'nt pay it by the 14th January I would be fined 30euros. The problem was the letter was dated 16th January 2008.
Unless I am living in some sort of time warp I think it would have been impossible to comply with the second letter by 14th January.
I can only think of 4 explanations for these events.

1. The Camara is backdating dates to generate extra revenue.
2. Someone at the Camara cannot count or dosent know the correct date.
3. The post office mislaid the first bill, possible but they certainly are not responsible for the dates on the second demand.
4. I am going dyslexic or completely potty !

I also cannot understand why I was only fined 15euro when the second letter said it would be 30euro, maybe it was because I questioned it !

I only post this to see if anyone else has had a simelar experience with dates on fosser bills or anything else from the Camara for that matter.

I realise looking at some of the bills mentioned here my 51.30euro including fine is very reasonable , but there must be some extremely large fossers out there to generate such bills.

Thanks for this latest news Demon, but as we all know everything here is done in triplicate so you can expect another bill for the same limpeza next week, with a €50 fine!
Good to hear that the cost of emptying the fossa hase come down considerably in the past while, must be something to do with the new truck.
